Lehighton beats Kentucky 3-time state champ
The Lehighton Field Hockey team solidified its claim as one of the premiere programs in the country with a big win over Sacred Heart Academy over the weekend. Elsewhere, the Jim Thorpe boys cross country team had a successful weekend and Tamaqua girls' soccer team picked up another solid win to keep improving as the seasons pass.
FIELD HOCKEY
Lehighton
-Sacred Heart Acad.The Lady Indians stopped the three-time defending Kentucky State Champs, Sacret Heart Academy, 2-1 at Wyoming Seminary.
After a scoreless first-half, it was Sacred Heart who got on the scoreboard first with a penalty corner rebound goal with 21 minutes to go. Lehighton came back to tie the game on a penalty corner goal by Corri McConville, assisted by Vanessa Rimbey with 15 minutes to go. After a scramble in front of the net with four minutes to go, Rachel Werley scored the game-winner on another Rimbey assist.
Lehighton outshot Sacred Heart 19-8 in the win to improve their record to 11-0 on the season.
Sarah Snyder stopped seven shots in goal for the Indians.
Pocono Mt East-Palmerton
After relinquishing three first half goals to the Lady Cards, Palmerton's defense held up the remainder of the way, as Pocono Mountain East downed the locals, 4-0.
Katelyn Farmer had a goal and two assists to lead her team to the win, while teammates Katelyn Greco, Neelum Khawaja and Ally Roth all tallied individual scores.
Palmerton's Lydia Anthony stopped 12 of 30 shots on goal, where the Lady Bombers were outshot 30-1.

Jim Thorpe wins
PG Invitational
Jim Thorpe won the team championship at the 8th annual Cardinal Clash on Pine Grove's Homecoming day.
Northern Lebanon dominated the girls' race as Breanna Hetrick won in 21 minutes, 30 seconds, and the Vikings placed seven girls in the top 16 to win with 29 points.
Northern Lebanon's Joe Vedilago won the varsity boys' race in 18:21.
Jim Thorpe's Sam Lux placed second in 18:31. The Olympians other point-getters were Dave Barrientos (fifth), Matthew Curran (ninth), Josh Williams (12th) and Sean Boyd (14th).
BOYS SOCCER
Pleasant Valley
-Freedom
After a scoreless first half, PV came out strong and scored first on a Ricky Forte score, assisted by Ryan Habick. However, Freedom recorded two unanswered goals for the 2-1 non-league win.
Joe Lococo and Clark Israel took turns assisting the other on scores for the goal production.
For PV (9-3-1, 5-2-1), Mike Cimino stopped seven shots in goal.
Freedom held the slim 15-14 shot advantage.
Tamaqua
-Blue Mountain
Blue Mountain penetrated the Raider defense often for a 8-0 win over the locals.
Berg and Rarick both had hat tricks in the win, while Wessner had the other two scores in the winning effort. Berg had two assists, while Rarick and Wessner had one apiece, as well.
Tamaqua's Zack Lakitsky stopped nine shots in the losing effort, where his team was outshot 20-5.

Corrine Reichert scored off a corner kick in the first half to give the Cardinals a 1-0 win over the Olympians.
Millville-Tamaqua
The Lady Raiders' defense came up big again in this one with a 2-0 win over Millville.
Chey Bates had a save in her sixth shutout of the season. Offensively for the locals, Ali Updike and Kailee Rottet provided the scoring punch with a goal apiece.
Tamaqua (11-0, 8-0) outshot Millville 19-1 in the win.
GIRLS TENNIS
Whitehall-Jim Thorpe
The Lady Zephyrs picked up a non-league win over host Jim Thorpe with a 4-1 victory.
JT's sole point came from the Lady Olympians' number one singles player, Ellyn Tomko, who made quick work of the competition, winning 6-2, 6-0.
Whitehall took the remainder of the matches for the team win.
