St. Luke's Miners Hospital holds Diabetes Fair
The St Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale, held the annual Diabetes Health Fair in the gym at the Tamaqua Salvation Army building on Broad Street in Tamaqua.
The health fair provides an opportunity for local people to learn about diabetes and good nutritional habits.
The fair also offered information on diabetes prevention, education, services, progression, and making healthy choices.
Guest speaker Bankim A. Bhatt, MD of St. Luke's Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology in Bethlehem talked about many aspects and measures related to diabetes. He said that the guaranteed way to prevent diabetes is simply cut your meals in half and perform 30-minutes of real exercises a day.
Dr Bhatt also said that he actually hands out prescriptions to his patients that simply state, "30-minute exercise with a 365 day refill".
The diabetes health fair was handled with development and partnerships between Partnership For Community Health, Lehigh Carbon Community College, Senior Housing, and the South Ward Neighborhood Committee.
