Area tennis players lose

All three TIMES NEWS entrants in the District 11 Class AA singles tennis tournament suffered first round setbacks on Friday.

D-11 Class AA Singles
The District 11 Class AA Singles Tennis Tournament got underway Friday afternoon at the West End Racquetball Club in Allentown.
The TIMES NEWS area was represented by a trio of athletes: Ellyn Tomko and Anna Domingo from Jim Thorpe and Tamaqua's Kristina Zwolenik.
In first-round action, Gabrielle LeGendre (Notre Dame-East Stroudsburg) defeated Tomko in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, while Domingo dropped a 6-0, 6-0 setback to Allentown Central Catholic's Kristen Wong.
For Tamaqua, Zwolenik also fell victim in straight sets, as Southern Lehigh's Megan Werner recorded a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
MS FOOTBALL
Panther Vy.-Tamaqua
Tamaqua remained undefeated on the season (5-0) with a 30-12 victory over Panther Valley. Raiders quarterback Joey Marcin connected on touchdown strikes to Dustin Vandermartin and Ernie Shilko. Tyler Hope and Nate Edmunds added rushing touchdowns for Tamaqua in the winning effort.
