Cyclist seriously injured in crash
A Berks County motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash in Schuylkill County. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the accident occurred about 1:04 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11, along Hawk Mountain Road, seven-tenths of a mile east of SR895, in West Brunswick Township.
Troopers said Arlen R. Martin, 45, of Blandon, was operating a 2005 Suzuki DL650 southbound and entered a bend in the road. Martin lost control of the bike and began to travel off the roadway onto the berm. Once off the road Martin laid the bike down on its left side. In doing so Martin was thrown from the bike landing about two feet away. The bike traveled about 22 feet after leaving the road and landed in a ditch next to a tree.
Martin was flown by Medevac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, troopers said. Troopers said Martin was wearing a helmet with eye protection.
Assisting troopers at the scene were volunteers from the New Ringgold ambulance and also an EMT unit from Pottsville. Damages were minor to the bike.
