Assault at school results in charges

An assault incident at a Monroe County school resulted in one student being charged and a second needing medical treatment.

State police at Fern Ridge said the incident occurred at the Pleasant Valley Middle School in Chestnuthill Township, on Oct. 9 about 1 p.m. outside the cafeteria of the school.

Troopers said a 13-year-old male eighth grade student confronted another 13-year-old male eighth grade student at the above location. Troopers said the suspect punched the victim in the face with a closed fist causing him to fall backwards and strike his head on the corner window sill, then fall to the ground. While on the ground the suspect continued to punch the victim in the face several more times with a closed fist until middle school adminsitration personnel intervened.

The victim was taken to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, where he was treated for a concussion. hermatoma, contusion, abrasion and oral laceration.

The suspect will have charges of simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct filed against him through the county juvenile probation office, troopers said.
