Tigers breeze in field hockey
Northwestern didn't let Thursday's weather prevent it from rolling to a field hockey victory over Catasauqua.
Volleyball teams also had a lot of success as Weatherly, Panther Valley and Marian all posted sweeps.
FIELD HOCKEY
N'western-Catasauqua
Northwestern shut out Catasauqua, 5-0, in Colonial League play. The Tigers moved their game to Salisbury's turf field because of the wet conditions and it turned out to be the perfect home-away-from-home.
Northwestern (10-6-1, 9-6-1) was led by Jenn Groller and her two goals. She scored the team's first two goals.
Teammates Caileigh Landrigan, Kina Wehr and Lauren Horner added goals as well.
Sam Rex had to make just two saves in net in order to record the shutout.
VOLLEYBALL
Weatherly-Sch. Haven
Weatherly picked up its seventh win of the year with a sweep over Schuylkill League foe Schuylkill Haven, 25-17, 25-18, 25-23.
Brittany Hinkle led the Lady Wreckers with 19 digs and nine kills. Teammate Sara Dolinsky helped out with 11 digs and eight kills.
Fellow Wreckers Sam Strizak and Rachel Heister helped out with 13 and 10 assists respectively.
Schulkill Haven took the JV match in two, 25-20, 28-26.
Panther Vy.-Halifax
The Lady Panthers beat up on Halifax, as they swept their Schuylkill League opponent, 27-25, 25-19, 25-21.
Carly Markovich was the leading stat-getter for Panther Valley (10-3). She finished with 31 assists, six kills, six service points and five digs.
Teammate Tricia Janowiak added 13 digs, 12 service points and eight kills, while Christa Mantz had 19 kills, eight service points and seven digs.
Katie Zulic chipped in with 12 service points.
Panther Valley also won the JV contest, 25-15, 22-25, 15-9.
Marian-Shenandoah
Rachel Krajcirik dished out 22 assists and led her Fillies to a 25-11, 25-5, 25-15 Schuylkill League volleyball win over Shenandoah.
Devin Parambo and Marykate Sherkness led Marian (13-1, 11-1) with seven and six kills respectively. Parambo also had 11 digs.
Fellow Fillie Abby Owsinsky had three blocks, while Tori Vadyak and Sara Connely each had two blocks.
Marian won the JV game as well, 25-15, 25-14.
