Carbon crashes

State police at Lehighton reported investigating a two vehicle crash about 11:05 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, along SR209 in Towamensing Township, Carbon County. It was one of two probed in the county.

Troopers said Astor L. Howell, 66, of Kresgeville, was driving a 1999 Jeep Cherokee and attempted to turn into a parking lot while Thomas A. Herman, 41, of Jim Thorpe, driving a 1999 Jeep Wrangler, was southbound. Troopers said the Cherokee struck the Wrangler.

Howell was injured and taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, by Palmerton ambulance for treatment of a moderate injury, troopers said. Herman was not injured.

Troopers cited Howell for vehicles entering or crossing a roadway.

A one vehicle accident occurred about 9:37 p.m. on Friday along SR248 at Bowmanstown. Trooper said Susan L. Donato, 50, of New Tripoli, was driving a 1998 Toyota 4Runner westbound when the left rear tire became detached from the vehicle. Donato lost control of the vehicle that then struck the center concrete barriers. After impact the Toyota rolled over several times before coming to rest on its wheels in the right lane.

Donato was not injured.
