Fillies, Wreckers, Indians get wins

Marian, Weatherly and Lehighton all posted volleyball victories on Monday.

Also picking up a win was the Northern Lehigh field hockey team.

VOLLEYBALL

Marian- Mahanoy Area

Taylor Mele came up big with both her serving and defense to lead Marian to a 25-11, 25-10, 25-8 Schuylkill League rout of Mahanoy Area.

Mele finished with team-high totals of 16 service points and 22 digs.

Also playing well for the Fillies were Devin Parambo (10 kills, six service points, eight digs); Abby Owsinski (five kills, two blocks); Marykate Sherkness (four kills, three service points, seven digs); Rachel Krajcirik (24assists, two aces, five digs)

Marian won the JV match, 25-17, 25-13

Shenandoah-Weatherly

Weatherly continued its march toward a .500 record with a 25-15, 25-20, 27-25 sweep of Shenandoah.

The Wreckers got strong all-around games from Brittany Hinkle (seven kills, 15 digs); Sarah Dolinsky (nine kills, two blocks, 14 digs); and Alicia Panzerella (seven kills, 19 digs).

Also playing well for Weatherly were Rachel Heister (12 assists, five digs); Sam Strizak (10 assists, eight digs); and Alyssa Kephart (two kills, eight digs).

The Wreckers are now 8-9 overall and 6-7 in the league. they must win two of their final three matches (Marian, Nativity and Mahanoy Area) to qualify for the District 11 playoffs.

Shenandoah won the JV match, 25-11, 20-25, 16-14.

Jim Thorpe-No.Schuylkill

Jim Thorpe's Brittany Holland had 10 kills and four aces, but the Olympians dropped a 25-15, 19-25, 25-11, 25-21 decision to North Schuylkill.

Thorpe also received 15 assists from Marissa Cantelmi while Jill Andrews added 35 digs.

In the JV match, the Olympians lost 25-9, 25-10.

Lehighton-C.Dock

Lehighton rallied for a 21-25, 25-14, 25-15, 25-22 non-league victory over Christopher Dock.

Jessica Lobien (20 digs and five kills) and sister Debra Lobien (five kills, 11 digs, eight assists) both had strong matches for the Indians. Lauren Jankowski added a team high six kills and also chipped in five digs. Also contributing to the win were Rachel Inghram (17 digs, four aces) and Madeline Zurn (10 assists, three digs).

FIELD HOCKEY

Palmerton-No. Lehigh

Taylor Farber scored a pair of goals to lead Northern Lehigh to a 3-0 Colonial League win over Palmerton.

Rachel Wagner also contributed a goal and an assist, while Kelsey Gallagher and Danielle Dooley each added an assist.

The Bulldogs, who celebrated Senior Night, finished the contest with 26 shots on goal and had 14 penalty corners.

For the Bombers, goalie Lydian Anthony made 23 saves.

BOYS SOCCER

Pleasant Vy.-Stroudsburg

Pleasant Valley closed it regular Mountain Valley Conference season by falling to Stroudsburg, 2-1.

The Mounties, 9-3 in MVC play, opened the scoring in the first half on a goal by Jordon Ellison and extended the margin in the second half when Cayelano Ceballos tallied.

PV's Ricky Forte, off a feed from Ralph Lucchese, cut the deficit in half withe Bears' lone goal.

Matt Poorman assisted on both goals for Stroudsburg, who had a 19-10 edge in shots.

Goalkeeper Mike Cimino made 12 saves for Pleasant Valley.
