Carbon man facing DUI in Tamaqua
No one was seriously injured in a multi-vehicle accident in Tamaqua on Sunday.
An officer was on patrol at 2:27 a.m. traveling south on Market Street when he observed a silver Mercury Sable headed east on Broad Street at a high rate of speed. The officer followed. As the Mercury approached the curve in the 500 block of Broad Street the driver lost control, sideswiping several parked cars. One of the parked vehicles, a 2008 Kia, was pushed in to the westbound lane of traffic.
After requesting an ambulance for one of the Mercury's occupants the officer spoke with the vehicle's driver, Adam Brian Seitzer, 22, of 891 Oak Grove Dr., Lehighton. Seitzer exhibited several signs of intoxication and declined to attempt field sobriety tests, admitting he had been drinking. He agreed to submit to blood alcohol testing which was done at a Pottsville Hospital.
The results indicated a BAC of .21 percent, almost three times the legal limit of .08. He was cited for driving under the influence (DUI) and driving at an excessive speed.
One of Seitzer's passengers was transported to St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale, after complaining of head pain. The other three passengers declined medical treatment at the scene.
Parked vehicles that sustained damage included a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier owned by Joseph and Karen McIntire, of 535 E. Broad St.; a 2008 Kia owned by Sharon Gilbert, of 541 E. Broad St.; and a 2007 Ford Focus owned by Nancy Banditelli of 545 E. Broad St.
