Two vehicle crash in Schuylkill

State police at Schuylkill Haven reported investigating a two vehicle crash about 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20, along SR209 in East Norwegian Township, Schuylkill County. It was one of three accidents investigated by troopers this week.

Troopers said Kelly Dranginis, 26, of Cumbola, was southbound driving a 1990 Ford Ranger pickup truck when she said an animal was on the roadway. She swerved the truck to avoid it, lost control, and crossed into the northbound lane where her vehicle collided with a 1993 Mercury Sable driven by Katherine E. Strausser, 52, also of Cumbola.

Troopers said Dranginis, Strausser and passengeres with her, Arlene McSurdy, 83, of Pottsville, and Isabel M. Knapp, 32, of Cumbola, were all taken by ambulance to the Schuylkill Medical Center East, Pottsville. Troopers indicated Strausser's injuries were considered major while the rest were moderate to minor.

Troopers cited Dranginis for roadways laned for traffic.

A crash occurred about 2:25 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 19, along SR61 in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Steven F. Schaeffer, 29, of Pottsville, and Karen N. McHugh, 57, also of Pottsville, were both southbvound in the area of University Drive when traffic began to slow due to an obstruction on the roadway ahead. Troopers said Schaeffer failed to follow at a safe distance and the front of his 2002 Chrysler Town & Country van hit the rear of McHugh's 2003 Dodge Caravan. No one was injured and both vehicles sustained minor damages.

Troopers cited Schaeffer for following too closely.

A two vehicle accident occurred about 6:06 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at the intersection of state routes 183 and 443 in Wayne Township. Troopers said Theodore J. Bonnell, 34, of Auburn, driving a 2009 Hyundai Elanta, and Donald E. Dress, 39, of Schuylkill Haven, operating a 1964 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray, were both attempting to merge onto 443 from the off ramp of 183.

Troopers said Dress was going about 15 miles-per-hour and wating to merge when his vehicle was struck in the rear by Bonnell's car.

No one was injured with damages major to the front of the Elantra and minor to the rear of the Corvette.
