Tomplin wins 39th Annual Switch-Back Scamper
Steve Tomplin of Milton, Pa. was the overall winner of the 39th Annual Switch-Back Scamper 10 K Race and 5 K Walk, held Sunday, Oct. 18.
The Scamper begins behind St. Joseph's Church in Summit Hill and commences down the Switch-Back Trail to Jim Thorpe, where it concludes at Mauch Chunk Lake Park.
Tomplin's winning time was 36 minutes, 57 seconds. Placing second was Jeff Crahalla of Drums, Pa., who is a previous winner of the Scamper, with a time of 38:25. Marian High School cross country coach Jeremy Dormer placed third.
Rebecca Redline of Breinigsville was the women's winner in 45:07.
The top overall 5 K walker was Jim Pugliese of Hazleton in 32:37.
There were 46 runners and 12 walkers in this year's race.
Proceeds from the race benefit the St. John Lutheran Church Restoration Fund.
