Adult day care

The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center has a variety of activities planned for November, including a special Thanksgiving Dinner on Nov. 19.

Other activities planned for the month include: Nov. 4, bingo; Nov. 9, craft day; Nov. 10, church service; Nov. 11, Salvation Army visit; Nov. 13, sing along with Audrey Christ; Nov. 17, cooking class; Nov. 18, Red Cross Life Line program; Oct. 20, visit with St. Jerome's kindergarten class.

The monthly birthday celebration will be held on Nov. 23. The center will be sponsoring a food drive, to benefit the Salvation Army Food Pantry, through Nov. 10. A mitten tree drive will begin obn Dec. 4.

In addition to weekly sing-alongs and social games, hairstyling and manicure services are available. Both require advance notice.

Daily activities include exercise, reality orientation, remotivational and reminiscent therapy, as well as breakfast, lunch and a snack.

Swim boosters

The Tamaqua Swim/Diving Team Boosters are conducting a used clothing drive the weekend of Oct. 30 through Nov. 1. The American Hose Fire Company, Mauch Chunk Street, will serve as the collection center. Hours will be Oct. 30, from 5-8 p.m.; Oct. 31, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and Nov. 1, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

TOPS

The Tamaqua Chapter of Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) meets every Wednesday, from 6-8 p.m., in the Tamaqua Salvation Army Community Center, 105 W. Broad St. The meeting includes a short business session and a program.

Anyone interested in learning more may attend the meeting without obligation.

Recycling

Wednesday is the day for curbside recycling pickup for all residents of Tamaqua.

All recyclable items must be placed in the containers issued to each borough household. Any other containers, such as plastic bags and cardboard boxes, will be emptied and left behind.

Anyone who needs a recycling container may contact borough hall at (570) 668-3444.

Collection bins for cardboard have been moved to the Tamaqua Transfer Station on Sewage Treatment Plant Road.

Collection bins for newspaper can be found at the Tamaqua Borough Garage on East Broad Street.
