Sorority news

Members of Preceptor Alpha Upsilon Sorority have been busy the past few weeks, participating in a wine tasting event at the Long Trout Winery, followed by dinner at Westy's in Hamburg; touring Sweet Arrow Lake and the cottages dotting its shore; and conducting a Secret Sister Halloween Party at the home of Pam Stump.

Chapter members are welcome to attend a Master's Degree for Patti Confer and Mary Machay. The event will be held Nov. 4 at Booty's Restaurant, Hazleton. Confer will also receive a Silver Circle Award for her 25-year membership in Beta Sigma Phi. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m., preceded by a 30-minute cocktail time. The next regular meeting will be held Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m., at Smulligan's Restaurant.

Senior news

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., in the Tamaqua Community Center, located to the rear of Boyer's Food Mart.

Last week's meeting was attended by 79 members. Secretary Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business session and offered her weekly report.

President Jean Yanick, Marlene Randig and Emily Faust were added to the sick list.

Eleanor Roberts offered an invocation, entitled "Autumn Morning." Readings were offered by Jean Machamer.

Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.

Class of 2010

Parents of the Tamaqua Class of 2010 will meet Nov. 2, at 7 p.m., in the senior high school cafeteria. Parents of all class members are welcome to attend.

St. Peter's

The Rev. Rodney Wells will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this All Saints Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will include Holy Communion and will be followed by a time of fellowship. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at 1 p.m.

Activities for next week include: Thursday, Prayer group meets at 5 p.m., dinner theater rehearsal will be at 6:30 p.m. and Brownies will meet at 6:30 p.m.

The choirs rehearse on Thursdays. Next week's schedule will include: Cherubs at 6:30 p.m., Junior Choir at 7 p.m. and Senior Choir at 7:45 p.m.

Hometown nursing

The Hometown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, on SR54 in Hometown, will offer local children a safe trick or treat night on Oct. 29. The event will be held from 5-8 p.m.

Party canceled

The Tamaqua YMCA Halloween Party has been canceled. The cancellation is due to a scheduling conflict, according to director Nick Zigmant, who apologizes for any inconvenience.
