Tamaqua fuel spill

Published October 30. 2009 05:00PM

Approximately 40 gallons of fuel oil spilled on to a parking lot in the area of the Family Dollar Store in Tamaqua Thursday morning.

Tamaqua volunteer firefighters were able to contain the spill, then placed absorbent material in the area.

The incident occurred when John Trout of New Ringgold, operating a truck owned by Tamaqua Sanitation, attempted to pick up a dumpster. The saddle fuel tank on the truck was ruptured when the truck struck a pole.

Tamaqua Emergency Management Coordinator Rob Jones contacted DEP concerning the spill. No action was taken by the regulatory agency as fire, police and emergency management officials were able to keep the fuel oil from entering any waterway or the storm drains.
