Pleasant Valley harriers earn MVC sweep
Pleasant Valley picked up a pair of wins, while Lehighton came out on the short end of Mountain Valley Conference cross country openers on Tuesday.

Lehighton lost all four of its MVC Cross Country matches - two on each side - to the Pocono Mountain schools Tuesday afternoon.
Senior Alli Sabol and Freshman Emily Oldt did the best for the Lehighton. The two finished sixth and seventh respectively on the girls' side. No times were reported other than the fourth-place finisher from Pocono Mt. East.
Freshman Daulton Radler was the team's fastest runner with a time of 22:25 - good for 19th. Teammate Josiah Evans was nearly a minute behind in 21st.

While local MVC counterpart Lehighton lost all four of its conference cross country matches, Pleasant Valley swept its four matches with the East Stroudsburg schools.
Sam Klingel won the girls event for the Lady Bears, coming in with a time of 21:11. The only other Pleasant Valley runner to finish in the top ten was Christine Klingel (11th) with a time of 23:39. Brittany Dunay (16), Stacy Wojy (18) and Althea Eoss (19) all finished in the top 20 as well.
On the boys' side it was Evan Makuvek coming in second place with a time of 17:55. Fellow Bears Dan Rose and Adam Wojy finished in eighth and 11th respectively.

Saucon Valley's Tucker Sandercock scored a goal in each half and led the Panthers to a 2-0 victory over Colonial League foe Northwestern.
Nathan Kester made 15 saves in goal for the Tigers, while Max Henig had two stops for the Panthers (2-1).
Palmerton-So. Lehigh
Christopher Kassel tallied a hat-trick for Southern Lehigh and led his Spartans to a 6-0 Colonial League victory over Palmerton.
(1-2) settled down and played some great defense the rest of the way.
Zach Huber stopped 13 shots for the Bombers, while Eric Novak and Connor Vanin had one each for Solehi.
The Spartans outshot the Bombers 29-2.
No. Lehigh-Salisbury
After a one-all tie at the break, the Falcons erupted for seven second half goals to pull away and eventually take the 8-3 decision over Northern Lehigh.
The strong Salisbury attack was led by Sean Baker, Kevin Barahona and Jake Hadinger, who all recorded two goals. Roberto Marquez-Rivera and Sean Adams added single tallies in the win.
For Northern Lehigh, Channing Shiffert and Jimmy Bilger tallied goals.
Salisbury (3-0) outshot the locals, 28-24.
Jim Thorpe-Pottsville
The Crimson Tide scored three goals in the second half to turn back the Olympians 3-1.
Matt Witkin scored a pair of goals for Pottsville. John Mazzella scored the lone goal for Jim Thorpe.
Tamaqua-Sch. Haven
Schuylkill Haven scored a pair of goals in the game's first seven minutes and cruised to a 6-2 Schuylkill League victory over Tamaqua.
Jon Nettles had a hat trick for the Hurricanes while Mike Georgevic scored a goal and had two assists.
Tamaqua's goals came from Eric Hertzog and David DeFiore. Geoff Sincavage added an assist.
Haven finished with a 20-4 advantage in shots. Raider goalies Caleb Leibenguth (12) and Zack Lakitsky (1) combined for 13 saves.
Tamaqua won the JV game, 2-0.

Kristin Cook picked up a singles win and the Bears notched a pair of doubles wins, but the Timberwolves still managed to pick up a 4-3 win in Mountain Valley Conference action.

Marian won its season-opening volleyball match Tuesday afternoon, defeating Shenandoah Valley in three games, 25-13, 25-7, 25-11.
Devin Porambo was the leading stat-getter for the Fillies. She had 15 digs, seven aces anf four kills. Teammate Abby Owsinski added ten kills, three blocks and two digs.
Fellow Fillie Rachel Krajcirik contributed 27 assists, while Taylor Mele had 22 digs.
Marian's JV also won, 25-9, 25-14.
Schuylkill Haven
-Weatherly
Weatherly did its best, but came up just short to Schuylkill Haven in five games, 25-14, 6-25, 16-25, 25-18, 15-11.
Brittany Hinkle led the Lady Wreckers with 14 kills. She also had six assists.
Teammates Sara Dolinsky (nine kills and five assists), Alicia Panzarella (17 assists and five aces) and Rachel Heister (seven assists, six digs and six aces) each helped out as well.
Haven also won the JV match, 25-21, 25-12.
Jim Thorpe-Pottsville
The Crimson Tide handed the Olympians a setback by scores of 25-15, 25-15, 25-23.

Bangor-Northern Lehigh
With all of the goals scored in the first half, the Slaters picked up a 2-1 Colonial League victory over the Bulldogs.
Autumn Paraschos scored first unassisted at the 24 minute mark for the Slaters. Steph Catino followed off an assist by Liz Deeker with 10 minutes left in the first half.
Northern Lehigh's goal was scored by Alisha Bowers with an assist by Danielle Dooley with 1:30 left in the half.
Northern Lehigh had six shots on goal, while the Slaters had 12. Bulldog goalie Nicole Pitosky had 12 saves.
Bangor also won the JV game 3-0.
Northwestern-Pen Argyl
The Lady Tigers hung tough with Pen Argyl and eventually pulled off the 3-2 overtime win on Caileigh Landrigan's game-winner.
Landrigan had an all-around great game with two goals and an assist. Jenn Groller added the other tally.
Amanda Knitter and Kiersten Young notched the two scores for the Lady Green Knights in the losing effort.
PA outshot NW 12-8 in the game with the Tigers' Sam Rex stopping ten shots in goal.
Palmerton-Catasauqua
Nicole Kern and Shawnna Beil combined for five goals as Catasauqua breezed to a 7-1 Colonial League victory over Palmerton.
Kern tallied a hat trick while Beil added a pair of goals.
Palmerton avoided the shutout when Morgan Meyers scored off an assist by Kylee Turko with just over five minutes remaining in the game.
Despite the lopsided score, the Bombers actually outshot Catty, 22-19. Palmerton goalie Alexa Harleman made 10 saves.
Rough Rider goalie Andrea Eck made 17 saves.

Minersville-Jim Thorpe
The Olympians jumped out to a 2-0 lead only to see the Miners come back for a 3-2 win in overtime.
Five minutes into the game, Caitlin Licinski scored to give the Olympians a 1-0 lead. Kristin Lawrence made it 2-0 with a goal seven minutes later.
With seven minutes left in the half, Jeanna Strubhar put Minersville on the scoreboard with a goal leaving the visitors trail by one at the half.
Minersville tied it with 1:30 left in regulation as Sonia Bernetskie found the crease and sent the game into overtime.
Bernetskie scored the winning goal with 2:30 left in overtime.
