Class of 1979

The Tamaqua Area Class of 1979 Reunion Committee will meet today, at 7:30 p.m., at Schick's Cafe Calcutta, Mauch Chunk Street. Plans for the 30-year reunion, to be held Nov. 28 at the Tamaqua Elks Lodge, will be discussed.

Any class members who may have changed addresses since the 25th reunion in 2004 should call Joe Plasko at (570) 668-2598 with their new mailing information.

TOPS

The Tamaqua Chapter of Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) meets every Wednesday, from 6-8 p.m., in the Tamaqua Salvation Army Community Center, 105 W. Broad St. The meeting includes a short business session and a program.

Nancy Barron was presented the TOPS Loser of the Week Award at the Sept. 16 meeting. Mary Ann Dahm provided an inspirational reading, entitled "Enjoy Laughter With Friends." Josie Mariani offered a program on chair dancing, encouraging members to try various exercises while seated. Members were reminded to bring their copies of the April-May TOPS magazine to the next meeting.

Recycling

Wednesday is the day for curbside recycling pickup for all residents of Tamaqua. All recyclable items must be placed in the containers issued to each borough household. Any other containers, such as plastic bags and cardboard boxes, will be emptied and left behind. Anyone who needs a recycling container may contact borough hall at (570) 668-3444.

Collection bins for cardboard have been moved to the Tamaqua Transfer Station on Sewage Treatment Plant Road. Collection bins for newspaper can be found at the Tamaqua Borough Garage on East Broad Street.

Raider band

The Tamaqua Raider Band will hold an instrumental rental night, today, for fourth and fifth grade students in all three of the Tamaqua Area School District's elementary schools. Rental night will begin at 7 p.m., in the school district auditorium, located between the senior high and middle schools.

Class of 1960

The Tamaqua High School Class of 1960 will hold a reunion planning session on Sept. 26, at 1 p.m. The meeting will be held at the home of Paul Miller, Hometown.
