NCFC auxiliary
The Ladies of the New Columbus Fire Company Auxiliary will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m.
Gerry McConnon, president will preside.
The Hospitality Committee for the meeting will be Linda Hunsicker, Minnie Kennedy and Gloria Oliveria.
PV women's club
The members of the Panther Valley Women's Club will meet at the Viennese Villa in Coaldale at 6:15 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 25. Members are reminded that any unpaid dues for the year are now due.
Zion Lutheran Church
Morning worship begins Sunday at 9 a.m. In addition to a children's sermon, the main sermon title this week is "Salt and Water." There will be a healing service featuring prayer, scripture and the laying on of hands during the service. The Rev. John Hazel is pastor, (570) 645-3469. Visitors are always welcome.
Summit Hill
Shade Tree plans
The Summit Hill Shade Tree Commission will be conducting the fall planting on the streets of the borough on the last weekend in October. This is the 10th year the commission has been restoring and maintaining the trees in the community.
Orders for new trees will be placed in mid-October. Any business or homeowner interested in participating in the program can call Lou Vermillion, (570) 645-9772, or John Kupec, 645-9964, for more information.
St. Paul Lutheran
Harvest Home Sunday will be observed on Sunday, Sept. 27, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill. In addition to the special observance, a service of healing will take place during the 10:30 a.m. worship. The church's Sunday school will meet that morning at 9 o'clock.
Methodist Charge
The schedule for the Summit Hill/Coaldale United Methodist Charge for the week of Sept. 27 is as follows:
Worship services will be held on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 9 a.m. in the Summit Hill United Methodist Church and at 11 a.m. in the Coaldale United Methodist Church. The Rev. Burgess Gordon, pastor, will officiate at both services.
The church's adult Sunday school will meet at 9:45 a.m. in the Coaldale church. The children's Sunday school has been discontinued.
The annual Charge Conference will be held on Saturday, Oct. 3, in Coaldale. The PPR Committee will meet with the district superintendent at 11 a.m., and the full conference will meet at 11:30 a.m. This is a very important conference meeting and all members of both churches are urged to attend.
Presbyterian Church
The Hope of Christ Presbyterian Church, formerly the First Presbyterian Church of the Panther Valley, Summit Hill, resumed its regular worship service schedule on Sunday, Sept. 20. It is as follows:
Sunday school and adult Bible study, 9 a.m.; and worship service, 10:30 a.m. Communion will be celebrated on the first Sunday of each month.
Fall cleanup plans
Summit Hill Borough's fall cleanup program began today with the contractor picking up refuse on the west side of town and along Laurel Drive and East and West Mountaintop.
On Monday, Sept. 28, the pickups will be made on the east side of town, along with Knepper's Trailer Court and East and West White Bear drives.
Items to be picked up can include: tires (no more than 5), tire rims, auto body parts, refrigerators, freezers, vending machines, dehumidifiers, water coolers, heat pumps, washers, dryers and stoves.
All items must have all chemicals removed and doors taken off.
In addition, up to 10 bags of garbage will be collected.
