Annual Pink Light Walk promotes breast cancer awareness

Published October 05. 2009 02:55PM

Grab your sneakers and join Lehighton Area Lioness Lions Club for its third annual Pink Light Walk on Tuesday, Oct. 6. For the past two years, the walk has been held in Lehighton to promote breast cancer awareness.

Registration for the walk begins at 5:30 p.m. and the warm up will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the walk to follow. Participants will be following pink ribbons painted on the roadway from the Lehighton Recreation Center to the Lehighton Amphitheater and back to the center where light refreshments will be served.

This year's speakers include Theresa Long, vice president of nursing at Blue Mountain Health System and a breast cancer survivor, and Michele Huk from the Gallery of Hope.

Betty McCall, wife of state Rep. Keith McCall, will serve as honorary chairwoman and her daughter, Courtney, will provide each survivor with a small gift.

Those participating are asked to wear a pink shirt to increase awareness of breast cancer.

Participants need not be a survivor to be involved.

Pink light bulbs will be available to commemorate the event and it is hoped that those residing along the route will have them lit on their porch.

There is no charge to participate in the event. A goody bag will be given to the first 200 registrants.

To register, go to pinklightwalk@yahoo.com, and provide your name, address, telephone number and e-mail address, and indicate whether you are a survivor or supporter. Registration deadline is Sept. 30.

The Lehighton Area Lioness Lions Club supports many Lions and community projects annually.
