Last month, Hawk Mountain's Sarkis Acopian Director of Conservation Science Dr. Keith Bildstein was presented with the 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award at the Second Annual Bird Migration and Global Change conference held in Algeciras, Spain.

Keith was selected to receive this award based on his long-term contributions to raptor-migration science and his ongoing work to train the next generation of raptor conservationists at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary.

The award comes from Fundacion Migres, a Spanish non-governmental organization that studies and monitors the movements of migrating raptors, other birds, and marine mammals at the Strait of Gibraltar, the body of water that separates southwestern Europe from northwestern Africa at the western end of the Mediterranean Sea. Bildstein currently serves on the organization's Science Advisory Council, and has consulted with Fundacion Migres since the organization was created 10 years ago.

Keith received the award at the opening ceremony of the international conference, which was attended by more than 140 scientists from throughout North America and Europe. A plaque recognizing the achievement is on display at the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Acopian Center for Conservation Leaning.
