Financial peace
The Tamaqua Salvation Army will sponsor a 13 week series of classes from Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University. The sessions are designed to help participants free themselves from debt and become more responsible financially. A free preview session will be held this Thursday, at 6 p.m., at the Salvation Army, 105 W. Broad St.
Classes will begin May 13 and then be held Thursdays, at 6 p.m., through Aug. 12. Topics range from ways to save, eliminating debt, real estate and mortgages, mutual funds and more.
No pre-registration is required for the free preview.
Notre Dame
The Notre Dame Club of Schuylkill County will meet this Sunday, April 11, at the American Hose Fire Company in Pottsville. The club is accepting donations for the Hillside SPCA.
St. John Lutheran
The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. service this Sunday in St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Sunday school classes meet at 10:30 a.m.
Activities for next week will include: Monday, Church Council meets at 7 p.m., rummage sale set up from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Tuesday, rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.; Wednesday, rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Thursday, Property Committee meeting at 7 p.m.; Saturday, work day at church.
The choirs will rehearse on Thursday: Angel Choir at 6 p.m., Senior Choir at 6:30 p.m. and Youth Choir at 7:30 p.m.
First Methodist
The Rev. James Cavellero will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church.
The Senior Choir will rehearse today at 7:30 p.m. United Methodist Women will meet Thursday at 12:30 p.m. and discuss the upcoming chicken BBQ, which will be held May 8 at the Hometown Fire Company.
The quilters next meeting will be held April 20 at 9:30 a.m.
The Tamaqua-Panther Valley Welsh Songfest will be held April 25, at 3 p.m. Rehearsal will be held April 22, at 3 p.m. at First UM.
Soccer sign ups
The Tamaqua Area Youth Soccer Association will conduct registration sessions for the new season on three dates in April. The organization is open to boys and girls between the ages of 4 and 14 who reside within the Tamaqua Area School District.
Registrations will be accepted on April 17 and April 24, from 9 a.m. to noon, and on April 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. All sign up sessions will be held at the Tamaqua Elementary School.
First time players must provide a birth certificate.

This year's fundraiser will be a candle sale. Parents will be permitted to make arrangements to opt out of the fundraiser.
Fishing derby
The Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its Second Annual Fishing Derby on April 10 at the Rabbit Run Reservoir.
Hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Prizes will be awarded in adult and child categories for the highest total weight of fish caught.
Pre-registrations are now being accepted at the chamber office, 114 W. Broad St., and at Tom's Auto and Marine, Greenwood Street and Mountain Avenue.
