Northern Lehigh and Panther Valley posted victories in baseball and softball on Wednesday.

BASEBALL

No. Lehigh-N'western

A strong pitching performance from Eric Snyder helped Northern Lehigh gain a 5-2 Colonial League win over rival Northwestern.

Snyder walked one and struck out nine in his complete-game effort. He also added an RBI single during the Bulldogs' three-run fourth inning.

Jake Kern had two hits and an RBI for Nolehi (3-1; 2-0). Joe Seremula added two hits and two runs scored.

For the Tigers (1-3; 0-2), Adam Wehr hit a two-run homer.

Panther Vy.-Thorpe

Stephen Gulla tossed five and two-thirds innings of two-hit relief to lead Panther Valley to a 6-4 victory over Jim Thorpe in the Schuylkill League opener for both teams.

Gulla struck out two and allowed just one run to earn the pitching victory.

Casey Lawrence had a single and scored a pair of runs to lead Panther Valley (4-0, 1-0) offensively. Kyle McAvoy added a hit, a run scored and an RBI.

For Jim Thorpe (0-4, 0-1), Ben Stermer had a hit and two RBI.

Tamaqua-Pottsville

Tamaqua's defense let it down in a 7-6 Schuylkill League loss to Pottsville.

The Blue Raiders (1-3, 0-1) had 13 hits in the game to just four for Pottsville. But eight Tamaqua errors that led to five unearned runs proved to be its downfall.

Derek Linkhorst had two hits and three RBIs for the Raiders. Carl Wittig added two hits, two RBIs and a run scored; Anthony Bumbulsky had three hits; and Ryan Palsgrove chipped in a pair of hits.

Palmerton lost its second straight slugfest, dropping a 24-14 Colonial League decision to Bangor.

For the Bombers, who the day before lost a 20-13 contest against Catty, Travis Labyack knocked in three runs. Palmerton (0-3; 0-2) also received two RBIs from Travis Verzino and Rich Steigerwalt.

Tamara Stubits had a huge performance at the plate to lead Northern Lehigh to a 15-6 Colonial League victory over Northwestern.

Stubits had four hits and four RBIs for the Bulldogs (2-1, 2-0). Erika Bowman added a home run and two RBIs.

For Northwestern (1-3, 0-2), Jackie Wear and Nikki White both had two hits and two RBIs.

The Lady Bombers (2-0, 3-1) exploded for seven runs in the top of the 9th to score a 10-3 Colonial League win over the Slaters (0-2, 0-3).

Martina Herring, Jen Snyder, Michelle Rickert, Kelli Arner and Lindsey Henrich all hit doubles for Palmerton, while Jenna Ritter added a triple.

For Jim Thorpe (1-2, 0-1), Darian Rodgers had two hits and knocked in four runs.

Kristen Parker struck out and allowed just four hits to pick up the pitching win for the Wreckers (1-2, 1-1).

For the Fillies (1-1, 0-1), Nina Curran doubled home a run and Alexa Nemeth added a sacrifice fly.
