Fishing derby

Kellner's Dam Association will hold its annual Children's Fishing Derby the weekend of April 17-18. The event is open to local children between the ages of 4 and 15 and admission is free. Trophies will be awarded to the girl and boy with the largest single catch. Additional prizes will be available for various tagged fish, donated by local businesses and individuals.

Food and beverages will be available both days.

Donations are also being accepted and may be mailed to: Kellner's Dam Assoc., P.O. Box 454, Tamaqua.

County quilters

The Schuylkill County Quilters will hold its "Star Spangled" Quilt Show this weekend at the Fairlane Village Mall, Pottsville. Hours will be Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Featured items will include quilts crafted for the "Hugs For Heroes Make a Difference Day Project." Quilts from this project are donated to wounded soldiers as they return home.

The event will also include a silent auction of handcrafted items. Proceeds will be used to purchase and ship items to Schuylkill County military service personnel. Residents will have the opportunity to add their service member to a list during the show, as well as donate items to the cause.

WP softball

The West Penn Girls Softball Association will meet this Sunday, at 7 p.m., in the West Penn Township Municipal Building.

St. John UCC

The Rev. Kevin Duffy Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. service this Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ. Nursery service is available during the service. A time of fellowship will be held following the service. The weekly service is broadcast on radio station WLSH, AM1410, at 11:30 a.m. Sundays.

Sunday school for all ages is held at 11 a.m.

Songfest

Rehearsal for the annual Tamaqua-Panther Valley Welsh Songfest will be held this Sunday, at 3 p.m., in First United Methodist Church, Tamaqua. The songfest will be held April 25.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery care is provided. Sunday school for all ages is held at 9:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, a prayer walk will be held at 1 p.m. and the TYM video series will continue at 7 p.m.

Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m. and GriefShare at 1:30 p.m.; Wednesday, TYM and prayer and Bible study meet at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, praise practice at 9:30 a.m.

Salem UM

The Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Salem United Methodist Church.

Zion Lewistown

The Rev. Sunny Stock will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include a children's message and service. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.

Primitive Methodist

The Rev. Rodney Hall will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Primitive Methodist Church. A children's sermon will be included.

Sunday school for all ages begins at 9:30 a.m.

Zion Lutheran

The Rev. Debra Ernst will officiate at the 8:15 and 10:45 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.

The later service will include the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:30 a.m.

Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, Council meeting at 7 p.m.; Thursday, Rejoice and Sing Choir rehearsal at 7 p.m. and Senior choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.
