Teens involved in Schuylkill crashes
Teenage drivers were involved in two crashes along Schuylkill County roads recently, with both being cited.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said a crash occurred about 7:12 a.m. on Saturday, April 10, in the area of 348 Birds Hill Road, in Washington Township. Troopers said a 17-year-old from Pine Grove was traveling westbound in a 2003 Ford Explorer while Frederick G. Lewert Jr., 68, also of Pine Grove, was westbound in the eastbound lane preparing to make a U-turn. The teen turned his steering wheel to the left and crossed over the single yellow line into the eastbound lane. His Ford then struck the rear of the 1997 Subaru Outback driven by Lewert.
After impact the Ford went off the road and struck a tree, then rolled once before coming to rest in the westbound lane facing southwest. No one was injured with damages disabling to both vehicles.
Troopers said the teen was cited.
The second crash occurred on Sunday, April 11, about 6:43 p.m. at the intersection of Lovers Lane and Sweet Arrow Lake Road, in Pine Grove Township. Troopers said a 17-year-old male from Pine Grove was northbound in a 2002 Mazda B3000 and approaching the intersection, while a 17-year-old female from Pine Grove, was eastbound on Sweet Arrow Lake Road. The male teen pulled through the intersection and struck the left side of the female's vehicle with the front of his. After impact the Mazda overturned onto its right side and came to rest in the southbound lane. After impact the other vehicle, not identified by troopers, spun about 90-degrees counter-clockwise and came to rest facing north in the westbound lane.
The two drivers and a 16-year-old male passenger from Schuylkill Haven, with the female, were slightly injured. Troopers cited the male teen with duty at stop signs.
