Marian wins pair on diamond

Rain played havoc with Friday's scholastic sports schedule as several games were suspended and a a couple of others were shortened by the weather.
BASEBALL

The Colts used a five hit attack to put together a four-run second inning and went on to bat the winless Golden Bears by a score of 8-0.
Scott Nietz, Mark Stawick, Jim Stavinski Ryan Gimbi and Brandon Dopira had the hits in the big inning.
Nietz and Stawick both had two hits.
Drew Sherkness was the winning pitcher, while Paul Kimmel was the loser.

The Bulldogs scored six runs in the first two innings and went on to hand Palisades a 10-4 loss in a Colonial League game.
Eric Snyder struckout nine and got the win for the Bulldogs (7-2).
Trevor Yashur had three RBIs, while Joey Seremula, Andy Hoch and Snyder also drove in runs.
Zack Stuebing had a double and two RBIs for the Pirates.

Tamaqua-Tri-Valley
Tamaqua's bid to stage a late rally was literally washed away at Tri-Valley as the Bulldogs held on for an 8-4 non-league victory.
Trailing by four runs in the top of the sixth inning, the Raiders loaded the bases with one out and the meat of their order coming up. But a thunder storm struck at that point and the teams were unable to resume play, giving Tri-Valley a rain-shortened, five-inning victory.
Ryan Palsgrove was one of several Raiders to have nice offensive games. Palsgrove had two hits and scored three runs. Mike Streisel, Jordan Heisler and Mike Toth also added two hits for Tamaqua (3-4) with Streisel knocking in two runs and Heisler one.

ES South-Lehighton
East Stroudsburg South and Lehighton were suspended due to rain and darkness. The game was delayed in the bottom of the second for 45 minutes due to rain. Play resumed for three innings before it was called once again.
Lehighton leads the game 12-2 in the bottom of the fourth. There will be runners on second and third with one out. A date to play the remainder of the game has yet to be set.
SOFTBALLMarian-Mahanoy A.
Marian staged a five-run fifth inning rally to edge Mahanoy Area, 6-5, in Schuylkill League action.
Trailing 5-1, the Fillies got an RBI single by Alexa Nemeth. They then loaded the bases with two out for Jeanne Cannon, who delivered a clutch two-run single. A Golden bear error on the play then allowed the tying run to score and send Cannon all the way around to third base. She scored what proved to be the winning run on a wild pitch.
Curran had three hits, a run scored and an RBI to lead Marian offensively. The victory was the third straight for the Fillies (4-3, 3-2).

GIRLS SOCCER
Palmerton-Saucon Vy.
The Panthers scored five goals in the first half and never looked back in picking up a 8-1 win over the Lady Bombers to stay undefeated.
Quanie Lightner scored three goals and assisted on two others for Saucon (7-0, 6-0). Katie Burns added a pair of goals and Jamie Baab scored the other.
Cindy George scored the lone for for Palmerton.
Kelsey Eaton had five saves in goal for the Bombers, while Kelly Shoenberger had two saves for the Panthers.
TENNIS
ES South-Pleasant Vy.
The Bears had an easy time of it, beating the Cavaliers 7-0 in MVC action.
Kevin Peer, Justin Kemmerer and Dan Galante had singles wins, while Mike Vargas and James Spinola, Ben Parham and Zach Kemmerer, Andy Russon and Bryan Baumgartner, and Vince Voulo and Joe Osinski had the doubles wins for the Bears (5-3).
