Driver is injured in Schuylkill crash

Leigh Anne Scheffler, 18, of Orwigsburg, was injured in a one-car crash Tuesday at 7:17 p.m. on Pheasant Run Road in West Brunswick Township, Schuylkill County, according to state police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks.

Police said she sustained moderate injuries and was transported by the Auburn Ambulance to the Schuylkill Medical Center, Pottsville, for emergency services after the crash.

Police said she was driving a 2003 Saturn eastbound at a high rate of speed, and was exiting a right curve when the vehicle crossed the center yellow lines and traveled across the west travel lane and off the road onto a grassy field on the north berm. The car traveled about 117 feet in the field before re-entering the road, crossing both lanes of travel and going onto the south berm. It proceeded to strike several trees with its right side and went back onto the road before rolling over onto its driver's side, sliding about 10 feet before coming to rest back on its wheels.

Polilce said the woman will be charged with failure to drive at a safe speed and violation of the restraint systems section of the code..
