Tigers, Bulldogs, Bears win in baseball

Northwestern, Northern Lehigh and Pleasant Valley all posted baseball victories in scholastic sports action on Friday.

BASEBALL

Palisades-Northwestern

Northwestern scored in every atbat on its way to a 13-3 Colonial League victory over Palisades.

The Tigers banged out 14 hits in the six-inning victory. Ty Cunningham led the way with three hits, two RBI and two runs. Colton Breininger, Adam Wehr and Billy Moyer all added two hits and two RBIs. Breinger also scored two runs.

Nate Kester got the complete-game pitching victory for the Tigers (5-4, 7-5). He struck out nine and walked two.

Joe Seremula tossed a five-hit shutout, striking out nine and walking just one, to lead Northern Lehigh to a 10-0 Colonial League victory over Wilson.

Andy Hoch led the Bulldogs (8-4, 7-2) with a home run, two singles and two RBIs. Matt Gill added two hits and a run scored; Tyler Bolton had a triple and an RBI; and Jake Kern, Eric Snyder and Dylan Bolton all drove in two runs.

Palmerton-So. Lehigh

Jeff Smillie had three hits and scored a pair of runs to help Southern Lehigh gain an 11-7 Colonial League win over Palmerton.

The Spartans, who built an early lead and then hung on for the victory, also received a hit and three runs scored from Brad Hefele.

For the Bombers, who dropped to 0-10 and 0-8, Travis Verzino had a hit and scored two runs.

Pleasant Valley-PM West

Alex Jimenez tossed a three-hitter while Pat Kregeloh did damage at the plate and Pleasant Valley stayed unbeaten in the Mountain Valley Conference with a 5-1 win over Pocono Mountain West.

Jimenez allowed an unearned run and struck out nine as the Bears moved to 5-0 in the league.

Kregeloh had a double, a homer, scored two runs and knocked in two. Derrik Walling added three hits, scored twice, and had a pair of stolen bases.

Tamaqua-Schuylkill Haven

Collin McGee slugged a walk-off homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Schuylkill Haven a 4-2 Schuylkill League Division I win over Tamaqua.

With one on and one out, McGee went deep for the Hurricanes. The blast also made him the game's winning pitcher, as he relieved starter Phill Dohner in the seventh frame.

The game-winner spoiled a solid outing by Tamaqua pitcher Mike Streisel. The Raider hurler allowed just four hits, walked four and struck out 13.

Trailing 2-0, Tamaqua (3-7; 2-4) forced extra innings with a two-run sixth inning. Derek Linkhorst singled, Ryan Palsgrove was hit by a pitch and Jordan Heisler delivered a two-run double.

Becahi-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley used a four-run second inning to help gain a 5-1 non-league win over Bethlehem Catholic.

Jordan Borger had three hits for the Bears (9-1), while Felicia Domenici added two hits and a run scored.

Meagan Fitzgerald earned the pitching win, allowing five walks while striking out four.

Wilson-No. Lehigh

The Warriors took advantage of six errors by the Lady Bulldogs and pulled ot a 8-4 Colonial League win.

The Bulldogs (7-4, 6-3) took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first when Erika Bowman walked stole two bases and scored on a base hit by Peyton Marunich. Julie Wagaman also walked and both runners scored on passed balls.

The Warriors (3-6, 5-6) scored four in the third and three more in the fifth to pull off the win.

Chelsea Bock, the winning pitcher, struckout seven and also helped at the plate going two-for-four with a solo home run in the first and a double. Wagaman took the loss.

So. Lehigh-Palmerton

The Lady Bombers scored three runs in the fourth and two in the seventh, but fell just short as the Spartans held on for a 6-5 Colonial League win.

Corinne Ozanne had a double and triple for the Spartans (7-2). Katie Reimer had a triple, two RBIs and a run scored. Amber Hettler added a double and Lindsey Heinrich had a single and two RBIs for the Bombers (5-4).

Weiss was the winner with five strikeouts. Martina Herring had six strikeouts in the loss.

Tamaqua-Schuylkill Haven

Schuylkill Haven used a six-run third inning to hand Tamaqua a 12-2 Schuylkill League Division I setback.

Kendall Boyer had a pair of hits for the winners and knocked in a run while Alicia Miller delivered a two-run single. Emily Gerhard gained the pitching win, striking out six.

For the Raiders, Jordan Nowacki had a hit and scored a run while Chey Bates struck out seven batters.

TENNIS

MVC TOURNAMENT

Stroudsburg captured five of the six individual titles on its way to winning the Mountain Valley Conference Tennis Tournament.

The Mountaineers' Karathik Shankar (No. 1), Cayetano Ceballos (No. 2) and Jeff Norris (No. 3) were the singles champs. Stroudsburg, which racked up 28 team points, also captured No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

East Stroudsburg North won No. 4 doubles and placed second in the team standings with 23 points.

Pleasant Valley placed third with 13 points. The Bears were led by runner-up finishes from Dan Galante at No. 3 singles and the team of Vince Voulo and Joe Osinski No. 4 doubles. Other top performances for PV were turned in by Zach Kemmerer and Ben Parham, who were third at No. 2 doubles, and Justin Kemmerer, who was fourth at No. 2 singles.

Palmerton-Bangor

Bangor cruised to a 5-0 Colonial League win over Palmerton (0-13).

The Slaters didn't lose a set in improving to 9-4 in the league.

The Olympians picked up three doubles wins, but fell just short and lost to the Vikings 4-3.

Brielle Kessel scored the only goal of the game with 22:15 left in the second half to give the Cavaliers a 1-0 upset win over the Lady Bears in a Mountain Valley Conference contest.

The Cavaliers (5-5-1, 4-2-1) had eight shots on goal, while the Bears (8-3, 6-1) had seven.

Carly Gallagher had seven saves for East Stroudsburg South, while Jackie Juliano had six for the Bears.

JV SOFTBALL

No. Lehigh-Wilson

Janelle Kern fired a three-hitter and struck out 13 to lead Northern Lehigh to an 8-2 victory over Wilson.

Taren Fritzinger led the Bulldogs' offense with a grand slam home run. Taylor Fliszar added two hits and also drove in a run.
