Officer representing the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

Salisbury Township Police Sergeant Kevin Soberick, a native of Lansford, has been selected to make a presentation at the National Institute for Justice Rural law Enforcement Technology Institute in May. Sgt Soberick will be presenting "Response to Active Shooter," a power point presentation he authored and developed for small police departments. One of 46 officers from small police agencies across the United States, Soberick is the only officer representing the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The National Conference will be held in Coronado, Cal., with the National Institute for Justice (NIJ) providing funding for travel expenses, lodging, meals and a per diem.

The Rural Law Enforcement Center was created by the NIJ to address the needs of and specialized training for law enforceent agencies having 50 or less officers. NIJ has provided funding for the annual Technology Institute for the past eight years. To date, 255 officers have graduated from this elite training program. The U.S. Department of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigations, the National Tactical officers Association and the International Association of Chiefs of Police provide training in law enforcement technology, aolutions to problems faced by small police departments, tactical situations and new training techniques during the conference.

The salisbury police Department submitted the "Response to Active Shooters" project to the NIJ for review and evaluation. The project was then selected for national recognition. The program has been presented in the Salisbury School District and all hospitals affiliated with the Lehigh Valley Health Network during the past two years. Emergency response teams from the Allentown Police Department, the Bethlehem Police Department and the Lehigh County Municipal Emergency response Team have participated in the training with the Salisbury Department.

Sgt. Soberick is married to the former Erin Scarfaro of Roseto. They are the parents of two children, Lauren, 17: and Anthony, 6. He is the son of Rose Mary Cannon of Lansford and the late Jack Soberick Sr.
