Two young males cited for arson

Two young males were cited for starting a fire in Monroe County. The arrests were among several reported by the Pocono Mountain Regional police.

Police said about 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, Pocono Summit Fire Company volunteers responded to a fire report in the area of 4034 Hunter Drive, Stillwater Lakes. Upon arrival firefighters found two small separate blazes in a vacant wooded lot. Fire officials found pour patterns of both gasoline and lighter fluid laying in the woods with empty containers.

Through an investigation police identified two males, ages 11 and 12 from Pocono Summit, were responsible for lighting the fires. The two will be charged with arson through the county juvenile probation office.

On Friday, April 23, about 5:45 p.m. police were dispatched to Old Route 940, in Pocono Pines, to a report of a fight between two intoxicated males. Upon arrival officers found the two participants were brothers. While trying to investigate the problem Stephen Coppo, 22, of Pocono Pines, became disorderly and was found to be intoxicated.

He was taken into custody and charged with public drunkenness and disorderly conduct, police said.

On Saturday about 11:35 p.m. officers were dispatched to the main gate at Arrowhead Lakes development in Tobyhanna Township, to a report of a fight in progress. Upon arrival officers made contact with John Pfaff, 19, of Glenolden, Delaware County. While speaking with Pfaff officers detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. Pfaff, being under the age of 21, was cited for underage drinking, police said.

Also on Saturday about 4:55 p.m. officers responded to the Walmart store in Mt. Pocono for a retail theft incident. On scene officers identified Robert Mefford, 18, of Albrightsville, as the suspect in the case. He was observed by store security removing a fishing lure from its package and concealing it on his person then exiting the store without paying for it.

He was cited and released, police said.
