PV knee-hi

The PV Knee-Hi will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Aug 10 following practice at 8 p.m. at the Sports Zoo in Lansford.

Golden Agers

An inspirational message "A Different Way to View the Day" was read by Minnie Kennedy at the July 26 meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers. The Pledge of Allegiance and singing of God Bless America followed. Irene Hudasky led the group singing with summer songs.

Welcomed back to the meetings were Martha Ciarvella and Murph Shigo. New member Palma Giglotti was introduced and welcomed.

July and August birthdays will be celebrated at the next meeting on Aug. 9, starting at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph's Hall. This will be the last day to sign up for the indoor picnic that will be held on Aug. 23. Members are urged to attend and sign up. Bingo and games will be played.

Nesquehoning

Crime watch

The next meeting of the Nesquehoning Crime Watch is set for Sept. 15 at 7 p.m., in the borough building. All are invited to join the group.

VFW auxiliary

The Nesquehoning VFW Ladies Auxiliary to Post 8008 will hold its annual summer picnic on Tuesday, Aug. 10, at the first beach at Lake Hauto. Mandy Breiner will host the event.

Members are requested to meet at the Post Home at 5 p.m. that day to car pool to the lake. Those attending are requested to bring a dessert item.

Reservations are needed to properly plan for refreshments. All those planning to attend should contact Maureen Hirochek at (570) 669-9578. Leave a message if she is not home and she will call back to confirm your reservation.

A brief business meeting by President Mandy Breiner will be held, followed by the picnic.

All members are invited to attend.

Borough meetings

The schedule of meeting for Lansford Borough Council's committees in August is as follows:

Grants Committee, Thursday, Aug. 5, at 6:30 p.m.

Facility Planning Committee, Monday, Aug. 9, at 6:30 p.m. in the borough office, 26 E. Patterson St.

Borough Council, Wednesday, Aug. 11, at 6:30 p.m.

Parks, Recreation and Lighting Committee, Thursday, Aug. 26, at 6:30 p.m.

Community Development, Planning, Zoning and Ordinance Committee, Thursday, Aug. 26, at 7:15 p.m.

Public Safety Committee, Monday, Aug. 30, at 6:30 p.m.

Public Works Committee, Monday, Aug. 30, at 7:30 p.m.

Municipal Administration and Finance Committee, Tuesday, Aug. 31, at 6 p.m. in the borough office.

All of the meetings will be held at the Lansford Community Center, unless otherwise noted.

Summit Hill

Volunteers needed

Volunteers are needed to help with the cleanup and preparatory work associated with the upcoming grand opening of the Summit Hill Heritage Center.

The center is located at the former St. Paul United Church of Christ, Hazard and Chestnut streets.

Organizer Debra Ranck is proposing workday sessions for every Saturday morning in August.

Persons interested in helping with the chores are asked to contact Ranck at (717) 787-3672.

Borough council

The monthly meeting of the Summit Hill Borough Council will be held on Monday, Aug. 9, at 7 p.m. in the borough hall.

Joseph Weber, president, will be in charge of the session.

Legion to meet

The monthly meeting of American Legion Post 316, Summit Hill, will be held on Monday, Aug. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the post home.

Commander W. Kevin O'Donnell will be in charge of the session.

A meeting of the Home Association will immediately follow the post's meeting.

Board to meet

The Summit Hill Recreation Commission will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 3, at 7 p.m. in the borough hall.
