Coal Crackers open with win over Spartans
The Schuylkill County Coal Crackers started their season on the right foot with a 36-0 victory over the visiting South Philly Spartans in a Colonial Football Alliance game on July 24.
The Coal Crackers defense was stifling, causing problems for the Spartan offense all game. The Spartans finished the day with six turnovers and a total of -11 yards of offense.
The Coal Crackers offense got off to a slow start, but found their stride in the second half. Leading the offense was James Snowell, with five catches for 54 yards and a TD.
Defensively, there were many standouts, but Monk Williams led the squad by forcing a fumble, recovering another, and intercepting a pass early in the game.
