R.R. Frey rolls in opener
The 21st annual Catasaqua Tournament of Champions tipped off this week at the Catasaqua Borough Playground.
In first round action taking place on Monday night, R.R. Frey Services champions of the Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission summer basketball league defeated Bangor Summer League champ Kaiser's Mulch, 49-36.
R.R. Frey Services exploded for an early 9-0 lead and held Kaiser's scoreless for the first nine minutes of action. Jason Derr scored nine out of R.R. Frey's first 15 points, en route to a game-high 15 points. Joe Schaeffer added 11 points, all coming in the second half, while Tom Toth pulled down 10 rebounds.
Nico Italiani led Kaiser's Mulch with 10 points.
With the win, R.R. Frey Services advances into tonight's second round where they will meet VIP champions of In The Zone summer basketball league in Bath at 7:40 p.m.
