Tamaqua man jailed for car theft

Tamaqua police recovered a stolen 1999 Pontiac Sunfire early Monday morning. The vehicle, owned by William Edmondson, of 385 Owl Creek Rd., was reported stolen at 10:18 p.m. Sunday.

Patrolman Thomas Duarte was on patrol at 3:25 a.m. when he observed a vehicle fitting the description of Edmondson's Sunfire parked in the lot at the Tamaqua Diner, Center Street. Duarte checked the registration and county alerts, confirming the vehicle was the one reported as stolen. A short time later Duarte observed Jeremy Earl Plasko, 33, of 301 W. Broad St., Tamaqua, exit the diner with another male. The duo went to the Sunfire where Plasko entered the car and removed a television from the back seat. He gave it to the other man in exchange for $20.

Plasko was taken into custody and admitted to taking the car during his walk home from Jim Thorpe. The keys to the vehicle had been left above the sun visor.

Plasko was charged with theft and receiving stolen property. He was arraigned before duty District Judge Bernadette Nahas, Frackville. Unable to post the required $15,000 bail, Plasko was remanded to the Schuylkill County Prison, Pottsville.
