Carbon driver facing DUI count

A Carbon County driver, possibly involved in a hit and run in Northampton County, is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI). State police at Lehighton reported on the incident as follows.

About 3:02 a.m .on Tuesday, Aug. 3, troopers were contacted by Bethlehem city police concerning a hit and run accident that occurred in their jurisdiction. A vehicle description and registration was provided.

Troopers said upon further investigation it was determined that the hit and run vehicle was registered to an individual who resides in the Lehighton barracks coverage area.

Troopers set up a stationary position near the address listed for the vehicle in question and observed it turning onto North Creek Drive in Lower Towamensing Township. Troopers initiated a traffic stop to which the vehicle turned into the driveway of the residence listed on the registration.

The driver was identified as Rebecca J. Kremus, 21, of Palmerton. Troopers said damage to the vehicle was consistant with damage provided in the hit and run incident. Kremus was found to be under the influence and was placed under arrest for DUI. Charges will be filed, troopers said.
