Thorpe residents warned of scam
Jim Thorpe police are warning people to be wary about giving personal information to people who call them.
On Aug. 4 police received a call from a resident who said she had gotten a phone call from a Jamaican male telling her that her husband had won $2.5 million. The man told her that her husband would receive 35 cashier's checks totaling the $2.5 million but that in order for her husband to receive his winnings he had to get a cashier's check for $599, take it to Wal-mart and send it via Western Union to an address in Jamaica, Wis.
The man gave her two phone numbers and advised her to call these numbers after deciding what to do. The resident did not provide any information to the man.
