Items stolen from parked vehicle

Published August 10. 2010 05:00PM

Tamaqua Police are investigating the theft of several items removed from a vehicle parked at Joe's Auto Repairs, 427 E. Broad St.

Melissa Leibensperger, 22, of 240 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, contacted officers after having warranty repairs made at the repair shop in July. When she left her 1997 Jeep at the shop, it had a quarter tank of gas and had a Garmin Nuvi GPS in the middle console and a number of compact discs stored above the visor. When she left the shop, she ran out of gas. She later discovered the GPS and 10 cds were missing.

Auto shop personnel explained the lack of fuel by saying they had to constantly run the Jeep during repairs. Leibensperger did not contact the business owner about the GPS and discs, instead reporting the theft to police. The Jeep is equipped with automatic locks that engage when it hasn't been used in a certain amount of time.

Anyone with information may contact police at 668-6100.
