Tamaqua man cited for DUI

Published August 10. 2010 05:00PM

A Tamaqua man has been cited for driving under the influence of alcohol stemming from an April 30 incident.

Officers were on patrol at 2:50 a.m. that day and observed a Ford F150 pick up truck traveling on the wrong side of the roadway near the intersection of Market and East Elm Streets. The truck continued traveling east on Elm, in the wrong lane, until officers initiated a traffic stop near the intersection with Columbia Street.

The driver was identified as Robert Laughlin, 51, of 545 E. Elm St., Tamaqua. Officers noted an odor of alcohol, slurred speech and glassy eyes on Laughlin and asked him to submit to field sobriety tests, which he failed.

Breath tests indicate Laughlin had a blood-alcohol content of .15 percent, almost twice the legal limit, which is .08.
