Schuylkill teen facing DUI count

Published August 11. 2010 05:00PM

A Schuylkill County teen is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one vehicle crash that occurred about 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7, along SR443, just east of Waterfall Rd., in Pine Grove Township.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said a 17-year-old juvenile from Pine Grove was driving a 1999 Dodge Dakota pickup truck eastbound and going too fast for a right curve. While attempting to negotiate the curve the teen traveled onto the berm and struck a concrete bridge on the south side. After impacting with the bridge the truck traveled 117 feet across both lanes and onto the north berm where it impacted with the guide rail, then rolled over and came to rest on its roof in the westbound lane.

The teen was suspected of being under the influence and failed field sobriety tests. The teen was then transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, where he/she submitted to a blood test.

The DUI charge is pending the test results, troopers said.
