Retail theft arrests reported in Monroe
Pocono Mountain Regional police reported on three separate retail theft incidents, with a total of seven people cited, at the Walmart store in Mt. Pocono, all occurring on Friday, Aug. 6.
At 3:08 p.m. officers responded to the store for three individuals in custody by store security for theft. The three were identified as Courtney Riley, 19, of Blakeslee, Ashley Gannon, 18, of Albrightsville, and Raiza Olivo, 18, of Long Pond.
Police said store security observed the three in the women's department concealing merchandise on their person and leaving the store without paying for it. Gannon and Olivo were cited and released. Riley, however, due to a prior retail theft conviction, was taken to the police station, posessed and charged with a misdemeanor two count of theft.
At 5 p.m. officers were called back to the store for three more individuals in custody for theft. They were identified as David Sweeley, 18, of Tobyhanna, and two 17-year-olds, a male and female. The trio were observed eating merchandise while inside the store. Also the male juvenile took possession of a T-shirt. The three left the store failing to pay for the consumed merchandise of the T-shirt. All were cited and released.
At 6:35 p.m. officers were again called to the store for a person in custody for theft. Police said Gilbert Summers, 54, of Henryville, was observed by store security taking several items, removed the items from its packaging and conceal it on his person then exited the store without paying for the items.
He was cited and released, police said.
