Girl Scout news

Girl Scouts in the heart of Pennsylvania will hold a registration night on Aug. 26 at St. John United Church of Christ. Registration will be held from 6-8 p.m., at 150 Pine St. Registration is open to girls in kindergarten through grade 12.

Additionally, the girls will conduct a used clothing drive this weekend, also at the church. Donations may be dropped off on Friday, from 4-8 p.m., Saturday, 4-8 p.m. and Monday, 9-11 a.m.

St. Jerome School

Classes for the 2010-2011 school year will begin Aug. 30 in St. Jerome's Regional School. The school day begins at 8:35 a.m. with final dismissal at 3:20 p.m. This year, student grades and report cards will be available online to students' parents. Registrations are still being accepted for the fast approaching school year. For more information, call (570) 668-2301.

Registration for new CCD students will be held Aug. 22, from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in the religious education office. New students will need to provide proof of parish membership at either St. Jerome's or SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

Class of 1978

The Tamaqua Area High School Class of 1978 will meet this Saturday, at 6 p.m., at Schick's Cafe on Mauch Chunk Street. Finals plans for the upcoming reunion will be discussed.

New Life Assembly

An upcoming change in service times has been announced for New Life Assembly of God Church on Schuylkill Avenue. Beginning Sept. 12, the Rev. Ed Noftz will officiate at a 9 a.m. and an 11 a.m. worship service. The Sunday evening service will begin at 6 p.m.

Recovery help

"Celebrate Recovery" sessions are held every Friday, 7-9 p.m., at New Life Assembly of God Church, 407 Schuylkill Ave. Anyone who needs help recovering is welcome to attend.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery care is provided. Sunday school for all ages is held at 9:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, there will be a worship service at the Hometown Nursing Center at 2:30 p.m.

Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m. and GriefShare at 1:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m., Prayer and Bible study at 6:30 p.m.

A Good News Day Camp will be held Monday through Friday next week, beginning at 9 a.m., at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle.

Primitive Methodist

The Rev. Rodney Hall will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Primitive Methodist Church. A children's sermon will be included.

Sunday school for all ages begins at 9:30 a.m.

First Steps, a support group for mothers with young children, meets the first Tuesday of every month, at 6 p.m., at Primitive Methodist Church.
