Rush-Ryan seniors
The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met July 27 at the Grier City Playground for the annual picnic. Two guests joined the 55 members in attendance. Lunch was catered by Christy Joy.
A regular meeting was held Aug. 10 at the Ryan Township Fire Company, Barnesville, with 43 members in attendance. President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business meeting. Chaplain Kathleen Valentine offered an invocation.
Reports were presented by secretary Florina Martin and treasurer Shirley Becker. Joseph Wislosky was congratulated on celebrating his 93 birthday, while Shirley and Hub Becker were congratulated on their 41st wedding anniversary. Get well wishes were sent to Tom Dally and Rose Mulhern.

The group meets the second and fourth Monday of every month. Anyone 50 or older is welcome to join. The next meeting will be held at the Grier City Playground and will include the annual picnic.
SWNC
The South Ward Neighborhood Committee will meet this Thursday, at 7 p.m., at 230 Race St. The meeting will include updates on the Carriage Street Stairway and playground renovation projects.
The public is welcome to attend.
Bowling leagues
The bowling leagues at the Sparetime Bowling Center in Hometown will reorganize next week for the 2010-2011 season. Both leagues will meet at the bowling center, located near the Hometown Wal-Mart
The National Bowling League will meet Aug. 23, at 8 p.m., while the Men's American Bowling League will meet Aug. 25, at 7 p.m.
New bowlers are always welcome.
Fun Day
The South Ward Playground Association will sponsor its annual Fun Day for children on Aug. 21, from noon to 4 p.m. The fun-filled activities will include a moon bounce, a water slide, games, prizes, food and more. There is no charge for children.
The playground is located in the 200 block of Penn Street.
SAL programs
The Tamaqua Salvation Army has a number of programs and activities scheduled over the next few weeks, including several weekly programs.
Continuing programs include: Coffee Cafe, Mondays,10 a.m. to noon; Needlebug Sewing and Quilting Club, Mondays, 10 a.m. to noon; Older and Bolder, Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to noon.
Fall computer classes for beginners will begin Aug. 23.
AARP Driver's Training classes will be held Sept. 23 and Sept. 24, from 2-4 p.m.
Worship services are held Sundays at 11 a.m., with Sunday school classes at 10 a.m. Men's and Women's ministries meet Tuesdays at 6 p.m.

St. John's Lutheran
The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Activities for next week will include: Monday, Social Ministry, Stewardship and Evangelism Committes will meet at 6:30 p.m.
