Driver cited after Schuylkill crash
Two drivers were cited following crashes in Schuylkill County that occurred on Monday, Aug. 16.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said Samantha M. Gares, 19, of Orwigsburg, was driving a 2000 Kia Sephia northbound on SR61 about 11:50 a.m. and traveling too fast when she attempted to make a right turn onto Manheim Road, in North Manheim Township. The car struck and jumped over the curb on the northeast corner of 61 with its left front tire. The car continued east and came to rest after striking a utility pole.
Gares and her 17-year-old female passenger from Schuylkill Haven were not injured.
She was cited for driving a vehicle at an (un) safe speed.
The second crash occurred about 5:12 p.m. along Waterfall Drive, just north of SR443, in Pine Grove Township. Troopers said Dennis G. Gehman, 59, of Stevens, Lancaster County, was driving a 1996 Dodge Aries southbound and negotiating a downhill curve when he lost control. The front right fender impacted with an embankment causing it to roll over onto its roof.
Gehman was not injured but the car sustained severe damages and required towing. Troopers cited Gehman for traveling on roadways laned for traffic.
