Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met Aug. 24 at the Ryan Township Fire Company, Barnesville, with 42 members in attendance. President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business meeting. Chaplain Kathleen Valentine offered an invocation. A moment of silence was held in memory of Emily Faust.

Reports were presented by secretary Florina Martin and treasurer Shirley Becker. Birthday wishes were extended to Sylvia Garcia and Kathleen Valentine. A get well card was sent to Edna Fegley and the group made a memorial contribution to Bethany United Methodist Church in memory of Emily Faust.

Jean Machamer, Florina Martin and Shirley Becker provided inspirational readings.

The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month. Anyone 50 or older is welcome to join.

SAL programs

The Tamaqua Salvation Army has a number of programs and activities scheduled over the next few weeks, including continuing programs such as: Coffee Cafe, Mondays, 10 a.m. to noon; Needlebug Sewing and Quilting Club, Mondays, 10 a.m. to noon; Older and Bolder, Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to noon.

AARP Driver's Training classes will be held Sept. 23 and Sept. 24, from 2-4 p.m.

Worship services are held Sundays at 11 a.m., with Sunday school classes at 10 a.m. Men's and Women's ministries meet Tuesdays at 6 p.m.

Recycling

Wednesday is the day for curbside recycling pickup for all residents of Tamaqua.

All recyclable items must be placed in the containers issued to each borough household. Any other containers, such as plastic bags and cardboard boxes, will be emptied and left behind.

Anyone who needs a recycling container may contact borough hall at (570) 668-3444.

Collection bins for cardboard have been moved to the Tamaqua Transfer Station on Sewage Treatment Plant Road.

Collection bins for newspaper can be found at the Tamaqua Borough Garage on East Broad Street.
