Carbon man jailed for assault incident
A Carbon County resident was jailed for allegedly assaulting two state troopers and a borough police officer.
State police at Hazleton said Daniel P. Wassil, 25, of Wetzel Run Rd., in Packer Township, was arrested following in incident on Sunday, Nov. 28.
Trooper Michael Borosh was dispatched to the above address about 8 a.m. for a man throwing items and ripping apart clothing. The person making the report indicated the man also had a gun.
The man was identified as Wassil. Borosh arrived on scene and found the defendant in the home and appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance.
While speaking with Wassil, he became enraged and kicked the trooper in the chest causing him to fall to the ground. Wassil then punched the trooper and threw a chair at him.
Borosh attempted to subdue Wassil. When the suspect attempted to punch the Borosh again the trooper used a Taser on him. Wassil was briefly subdue. He was told to stay on the ground but again approached the trooper. Borosh again used the Taser but this time Wassil managed to pull the probes from his body.
Wassil then went to a bedroom. Borosh feared he went for a gun and called for backup. Trooper Robert Christman along with Weatherly police officer George Keifer arrived on scene. The three officers then entered the home at which point Wassil struck Borosh with a chair and fold-up table. He then attempted to strike Christman and Keifer with a chair. Wassil continued to resist and fought with the officers after being told numerous times to stop.
Christman was kicked by Wassil and Keifer suffered a thumb injury. He was eventually taken into custody after police were forced to use the Taser a third time.
Wassil was arraigned before District Judge Joseph Homanko, of Weatherly, on three felony counts of aggravated assault and three counts of simple assault and one count each of resisting arrest and persistent disorderly conduct.
He was committed to the county prison in Nesquehoning in lieu of $100,000 straight cash bail.
