Man jailed in shooting incident

A Tamaqua man was lodged in the Schuylkill County Prison, Pottsville, on Saturday, Dec. 4, after he reportedly fired two shots from a handgun at his apartment building.

Officers were dispatched to 249 W. Rowe St. at 2:28 a.m. for a report of shots being fired. At the scene they spoke with a resident who said she thought her neighbor, Aaron Conahan, 33, had fired a handgun. Officers recovered a shell casing from the rear of the residence then spoke to Conahan, who appeared to be visibly intoxicated. Conahan admitted firing two shots from a Ruger pistol into the air.

He was taken to the county prison and video arraigned before duty District Judge Carol Pankake, of Tremont, on illegal use of a weapons charges. Bail was set at $35,000. Unable to post bond, Conahan remained lodged at the prison awaiting a Dec. 8 hearing.
