Holiday music
The Tamaqua Area High School Music Department will present its' annual holiday music concert Thursday in the school auditorium. Doors will open at 6:45 p.m. with the program set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
Selections will be presented by the Wind Ensemble, the Concert Choir, the Raider Concert Band and the Jazz and Concert Chorale. The evening will end with a sing-along. Accompanists will be Julian Gerace, Erin Raymond, Steven Moyer and Emily Zancofsky. The Raider Band and Wind Ensemble are under the direction of John Potlunas. The Concert Choir and Jazz Choral are directed by John Buglio.
TOPS
The local chapter of Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) meets every Wednesday in the education room at St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale. Weigh-ins begin at 5:45 p.m., followed by a short business session and a program.
TOPS is a weight loss support group for men and women of all ages. Members learn sensible nutrition, portion control and lifestyle changes that promote lifelong health. Visitors are welcome to attend their first meeting without obligation, free of charge.

Bethany EC
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery care is provided. The service will include the reception of new members. Sunday school for all ages is held at 9:30 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the Ministry Council will meet at 11:45 a.m., a local conference will be held at 11:45 a.m. and the monthly service at the Tamaqua ABC High Rise will be celebrated at 6 p.m.
Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m., Men's Fraternity meets at 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, adult Bible study, GriefShare and Tamaqua Youth Ministry meet at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, musician rehearsal at 9 a.m., praise practice at 9:30 a.m. and quilters meet at 11 a.m.
Zion Lutheran
The Rev. Jeffrey Kistler will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. Sunday school classes for elementary age youth will be held at 8:30 a.m.
A congregational meeting will be held following the service to elect council members and approve the 2011 budget.
