Schuylkill crashes
State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on two crashes investigated by troopers on Schuylkill County roadways over the past weekend.
A one vehicle accident occurred about 7:03 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 10, along SR501 in Pine Grove Township. Troopers said Philip A. Hamilton, 40, of Hegins, was driving a 2007 Toyota Yaris northbound when, for unknown reasons, his vehicle slide off the road and struck a guide rail along the east berm. After impact the car became airborne and flipped over and down an embankment striking several small trees. It came to rest on its passenger side.
Hamilton sustained a minor injury in the crash.
The second crash occurred about 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11, along SR61, a half-mile south of SR895, in West Brunswick Township.
Troopers said Jamie Lynn Shulski, 28, of Ashland, was driving a 1999 Ford Contour northbound while Henry Steigerwalt, 61, of Shoemakersville, Berks County, was operating a 2005 Cadillac CTS southbound.
Shulski went onto the east berm and lost control of the vehicle. The Ford traveled through the northbound lane, struck the raised median, then into the southbound lanes and struck the Cadillac.
After impact the Ford began to spin around and traveled in a norhtwest direction and struck a guide rail along the west berm and came to rest. Steigerwalt was able to pull his vehicle onto the berm.
Shulski and passengers Jerry L. Beach, 35, and two juveniles, both age three, Steigerwalt and his passenger, Carolyn Varady, Mohnton, were all not injured. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
