Driver cited after Tamaqua crash

Published December 15. 2010 05:00PM

A one-vehicle accident on Pine Street in Tamaqua Sunday morning, Dec. 12, snapped a utility pole but did not cause a major power outage.

According to police, Carl Caso, 27, of Pottstown, was traveling north at 4 a.m. when he lost control of the 1997 Dodge pick up truck he was driving. The truck struck and sheered off a PPL pole on the north corner of the Pine/Vine Street intersection. The truck also struck the rear bumper of a parked Volkswagen Jetta.

Utility crews spent hours at the scene replacing the pole and restoring electric service to the affected customers.

Caso was uninjured and told officers the truck slid on the wet roadway. He was cited for driving at an unsafe speed, careless driving and driving without insurance.
