Luzerne driver in Schuylkill crash

A Luzerne County driver was injured in a one- vehicle crash in Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said Roberto Melendez, 54, of Hazleton, was driving a 1995 Toyota Tacoma northbound on Interstate 81 in Ryan Township about 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 15, when he passed over a bridge. He lost control and the truck struck a bridge abutment damaging the front passenger side.

Melendez was taken to St. Catherine's Medical Center, Ashland, for treatment of injuries. The truck had to be towed from the scene.

Troopers cited Melendez for driving a vehicle at an (un) safe speed and safety restraints (no seat belt).
