Food drive

The Panther Valley Breaker Boys football team will hold a food drive on Saturday, Dec. 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the First Baptist Church, 15 W. Ridge St., Lansford.

They are asking the community to donate canned goods and nonperishable food items during the aforementioned times.

The items will be delivered to Lansford's Food Pantry and the food pantry at St. Katherine Drexel's Church.

The pantries will distribute food to families in need.

Chimney boxes

The Outreach Group of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, will once again sponsor its Chimney Boxes program for the Christmas season.

Boxes have been placed in the vestibule of the church for persons desiring to donate items that will be given to the residents on the fifth floor of St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale.

Suggested items include large print crossword puzzle books, note pads, pens, pencils, combs and brushes, hair picks, thin white socks for women, loose fitting white socks for men, non-skid slipper socks, baseball caps and jewelry.

Budget meetings

The Lansford Borough Council will hold two special meetings this week to work on its 2011 budget. The sessions are also listed for general purposes.

They will be held tonight and Friday night, both at 6:30, in the borough office at 26 E. Patterson St.

Christmas program

First Baptist Church, 15 W. Ridge St., Lansford, will host its Children's Christmas program at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 19.

The Christmas Eve Candlelight Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Dec. 24.

Trinity Lutheran Church

The Trinity Lutheran Church of Lansford will hold a Christmas program during the worship service on Sunday, Dec. 19 at 9:30 a.m.

There will be readings by members of the congregation as well as solos by church musician Susan Featro.

This will be followed by refreshments in the Sunday School rooms.

On Friday, Dec. 24, the Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion service will beheld at 8 p.m.

Everyone is welcome to attend these services.

Summit Hill

Christmas schedule

The Rev. James Burdess, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, has announced the parish's Christmas season schedule of services as follows:

Christmas Masses - Friday, Dec. 24, 4 and 9 p.m.; and Christmas Day, 9 a.m.

For the Feast of the Holy Family, there will be Sunday (Dec. 26) morning Masses only. They will be celebrated at 9 and 11 a.m.

New Year's Masses - Friday, Dec. 31, 6:30 p.m.; and New Year's Day, 9 a.m.

For the Feast of the Epiphany, there will be Sunday (Jan. 2) morning Masses only. They will be celebrated at 9 and 11 a.m.

Methodist Charge

The schedule for the Coaldale/Summit Hill United Methodist Charge for Sunday, Dec. 19, is as follows:

Services will be held at 9 a.m. in the Summit Hill United Methodist Church and at 11 a.m. in the Coaldale United Methodist Church. The Rev. Burgess Gordon, pastor, will officiate at both services.

The adult Sunday school will be held in the Coaldale church at 9:45 a.m.

The charge's Christmas Eve services are scheduled as follows: Coaldale, 6 p.m., and Summit Hill church, 7:30 p.m. Rev. Gordon will preside at both services.
