Two injured in Schuylkill crash

The two drivers involved in a collision that occurred about 7:37 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 16, in Schuylkill County were injured. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the crash occurred along W. Bacon street just west of Union St., in Palo Alto.

Troopers said Ronald E. Wolfe Jr., 32, of Cumbola, was eastbound in a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier while Jessica L. Youst, 28, of Port Carbon, was westbound in a 1991 Pontiac Grand Am. Troopers said Wolfe went into the oncoming lane and his vehicle collided head-on with Youst's car.

Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles by rescue personnel. Wolfe was flown by medevac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, while Youst was flown by Lifeflight helicopter to the Reading Medical Center. Troopers said neither driver sustained serious injuries.

Troopers also said that Wolfe may have fallen asleep prior to the collision. The investigation into the crash is continuing.
